Sue de Vanny workshop

Last year Sue de Vanny was guest speaker at our May Monthly Meeting and she has returned to Waverley to run a two day workshop using her fabric collage technique.

Over the weekend students worked on a project using Sue’s painterly approach to appliqué All said she was a wonderful teacher and they not only learned new techniques, freed up their approach to design and played with colour, they finished.

Starting from the same photograph of a sea urchin, students created their own pattern then snipped and glued fabric to create their own version of the image.

The next day stamping, stencilling and screen printing was used to create the background. Light, medium and dark backgrounds created different looks.

Finally free motion quilting brought the piece to life.

And at the end of the day everyone is still smiling. Thankyou Sue for a fabulous workshop.
