Spotlight on Rachelle Denneny

Rachelle Denneny

Inspiring designer from South Australia

Rachelle Denneny, an acclaimed quilt designer from South Australia, graced our last monthly meeting as the guest speaker, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees. Her reputation as a masterful creator precedes her, with countless exhibitions, awards, and publications illustrating her profound impact on the world of textile art. Rachelle’s journey into quilting began many years ago, ignited by a simple love of fabric and the transformative power of creativity. Over time, she developed an instantly recognisable style, blending technical precision with imaginative flair, and has become a guiding light for both aspiring and seasoned quilters alike.

What sets Rachelle apart is her unique approach to quilt design—an intricate dance between colour, form, and emotion. During her talk, she described her process as one of continual exploration, where each quilt starts with a spark of inspiration and evolves through experimentation and play. She shared stories about her creative process, revealing that she draws inspiration from the natural beauty of South Australia—the shifting light along the coast, the rich textures of native flora, and the calming, rhythmic patterns found in the world around her.

Beyond her own artistic pursuits, Rachelle is a passionate advocate for the quilting community. Her generosity as an instructor and mentor was evident when she conducted two workshops over the weekend for our very excited and grateful members.

We thank Rachelle for giving us such an engaging and uplifting talk, and for generously sharing her knowledge and passion for quilting with our group.
