Great designers make great quilts

With Di Ford-Hall and Karen Styles both Past Presidents of Waverley Patchworkers, it will come as no surprise that there are quite a few quilts designed by these ladies at the Quilt Show. Their shops, classes and publications have contributed to a great interest in Reproduction style quilts within Waverley. So if you love this style, you will see quite a few big quilts – no two the same.

Other designers represented in the work on show are recent teachers Lessa Siegele, Michelle Yeo, Margaret McDonald and Amanda Daly. Judy Niemeyer is another designer making an impact.

But what is most exciting is that over 30% of the quilts at the Waverley Patchworkers Quilt Show 2016 are designed by the maker. Through its many activities the group stimulates and encourages members to create original quilts, be it a gift for a much loved family member, a work that represents a passion or experience or a design that will showcase favourite shapes and fabrics. Then there are those that are challenged by scraps!

Traditionalists do not miss out, there are plenty of quilts using blocks favoured by quilters for over a century. Some in very new and exciting ways.
